What are the contents of an AFRIpads Menstrual Kit:

holder

Holder

Function: The function of the holder is to keep the pads in position in the underwear.
How to use: The wings of the holder wrap around the underwear and fasten together with a snap button. A pad is then slipped onto the holder, held in place by the ribbons. One holder can be worn for the entire day, while the pads should be changed as needed. The holder is made from soft poly-cotton material with a plastic layer as back-up leak protection.

pad

Pads

Function: Pads are used to absorb the menstrual flow, just like a disposable sanitary pad. After use, AFRIpads are designed to be washed, hung to dry, and worn again.
How to use: Each kit contains numerous pads in two convenient shapes - straight pads and winged pads. Pads are placed onto the holder and secured in place by slipping them under the ribbon bands. Pads should be changed as necessary, depending on the flow. Each pad is made from absorbent materials with a plastic layer for leak protection, and is stitched together with a durable overlock stitch to withstand hand-washing.

Storage Bag

Function: The storage bag serves as a discrete, waterproof place to store pads if they cannot be washed immediately.
How to use: Simply roll up a pad and slip it into the envelope-style storage bag.

Why use washable pads?

More and more women around the world are demonstrating their commitment to environmental responsibility by choosing to use reusable, waste-free menstrual products. Switching to washable pads not only eliminates the monthly waste stream created by disposable sanitary products, but it is also a cost-saving and comfort-enhancing transition.

AFRIpads in East Africa

In developing countries like Uganda where poverty is widespread, AFRIpads are an innovative and practical product alternative to unaffordable disposable pads or unhygienic substitutes like old rags. Cloth, washable sanitary pads provide women and girls with a comfortable, hygienic, and cost-effective means of managing their menstruation.
