So SureTM Reusable Sanitary Pads is AFRIpads’ new commercial brand, introduced to the Ugandan market in 2015.  So Sure is the highest quality reusable sanitary pad on the market, providing women and girls with unparalleled comfort and protection, and a cost-saving alternative to disposable sanitary pads.  Made from high performance textiles, So Sure Reusable Sanitary Pads provide 12+ months of effective protection; an easy wash/quick dry design; and a convenient fold-and-carry functionality.  The So Sure brand is poised for exponential market growth in Uganda and across East Africa, empowering millions of girls and women with a smart feminine hygiene solution.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

AFRIpads is in an exciting growth phase and seeks a professional, highly qualified Sales Manager to oversee and grow its new So Sure brand.  The Sales Manager will be responsible for capitalizing on the enormous market opportunity for reusable sanitary pads in Uganda and establishing So Sure as the trusted market leader.  As Sales Manager, you will be directly responsible for managing and executing all aspects of the So Sure sales, distribution and marketing strategy.  You will be tasked with developing So Sure into a household brand with nationwide availability, securing market share, creating value, and ensuring profitable sales growth.  You will be responsible for managing and growing a small, highly driven sales team and all aspects of the department’s operations to achieve ambitious sales targets.  The So Sure brand will grow exponentially under your vision and leadership; and as a key member of AFRIpads’ management team you will be a key contributor to the company’s strategic growth plan.

Establishing a brand is a rigorous but highly rewarding task.  This position will give you the opportunity to work at the forefront of social enterprise, while experiencing the thrill of scaling a high-impact product solution to reach millions of consumers in Uganda and beyond.  The role demands solid management experience; a passion for retail sales; an unwavering commitment to getting So Sure into the hands of every Ugandan woman; and a single-minded commitment to achieving that end.  The ideal candidate is an experienced professional who seeks a new challenge and is willing to work hard, to put in flexible hours, to take a hands-on approach whenever necessary, and to travel regularly within Uganda.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for developing and managing all aspects of So Sure sales, distribution, marketing, and strategy
  • Achieve annual sales, revenue and impact targets within budget
  • Manage a small but growing sales team and provide clear sales objectives, targets, work plans and oversight
  • Be a hands-on manager – involved in daily operations and committed to strengthening the sales team through training and capacity building
  • Develop optimal distribution channels and route to market strategy to grow retail sales, capture market share and create value, and ensure profitable sales growth
  • Design and execute the marketing strategy to achieve sales objectives with return on investment
  • Put a sales management system in place to deliver analytical, on-time reporting and inform sales strategies
  • Collect and analyse consumer insights and feedback, market trends and opportunities, and the competitive landscape, and apply this the overall sales strategy
  • Prioritize customer service and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Liaise with AFRIpads’ department heads to achieve best practices in sales operations
  • Contribute to company-wide strategy as a key member of AFRIpads’ management team
  • Responsible timely and accurate departmental reporting and administration - including department budget, annual reports, strategic plans, and weekly/monthly sales and finance reports

 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from a credited university in Business Administration, Marketing, or related fields
  • Min. 5-years of experience in a sales management position, with demonstrated increase of responsibility
  • Min. 7-years of experience in commercial sales (FMCG/retail), marketing, or related fields
  • Proven excellence in FMCG sales management. Must have demonstrated success in a fast-growing consumer retail business, managing a growing sales team with increasing capacity and outputs.
  • Proven success developing and executing sales strategies, marketing plans and budget management
  • Proven ability to think and plan at a strategic and organizational level
  • Excellent leadership skills - must be able to develop and motivate a team through leadership and coaching
  • Mastery of English, with strong reporting, communication and presentation skills (written and oral)
  • Fully proficient with the MS Office suite
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities and competing demands in a fast-paced work environment
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (including evenings and weekends) and regular travel within Uganda
  • Commitment to the company’s mission, with a keen interest in social enterprise and the desire to empower value-conscious consumers through high-impact products

 

COMPENSATION

AFRIpads Ltd. is offering a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience and a 2-year renewable contract.  Benefits include health insurance, after applicable waiting period.

  • CONTRACT PERIOD: Multi-year

  

POSITION DESCRIPTION

AFRIpads has recently opened up a satellite office in Nairobi, Kenya and is looking to grow its customer base of NGOs, CBOs and government bodies across the country. AFRIpads seeks an exceptional candidate who will continue to liaise with existing partners, as well as identify new opportunities to expand the network of clients in the country. Together with the Kenyan and Ugandan sales teams, you will help develop a strategy with tangible targets to realize this goal. The position will require travel to different parts of the country to develop new business in person for about 50% of the time.

 

You will be joining a small and highly driven team in Nairobi. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create new opportunities for the sale of AFRIpads Menstrual Kits in Kenya by identifying new partnership opportunities with NGOs, CBOs, charitable organizations & government bodies
  • Travel to major cities across Kenya to establish new business relationships
  • Increase the brand awareness of AFRIpads amongst NGOs in Kenya
  • Keep an up-to-date database of all AFRIpads clients on Salesforce.com
  • Assist customers with field visits to provide trainings on use and care of AFRIpads to product recipients
  • Attend conferences and trade shows to promote AFRIpads’ products and liaise with customers
  • Monitor competition by gathering current marketplace information on new products in East Africa

 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Core skills

  • Experience in business development, sales, marketing, entrepreneurship, customer service,  and/or a similar field a must
  • Proven ability to strategize, organize, and deliver a customized, targeted sales pitch to a broad spectrum of potential customers
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including highly proficient written (email) correspondence and strong oral presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally and with sensitivity amongst culturally diverse staff and customers
  • Understanding of the NGO and relief sector in East Africa and Kenya specifically.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively, with excellent time management
  • Mastery of English with excellent command of the language, both written and oral
  • Knowledge of Swahili language required
  • Complete familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Salesforce or equivalent CRM
  • Able to work independently
