JOB DESCRIPTION:

AFRIpads seeks a Director of Operations (DO) to supervise construction and lead the Operations department to maximize efficiency, optimization, and control of supply chain, procurement, manufacturing and distribution of AFRIpads’ products across Africa and the world.   The position reports to the CEO. 

The DO will be based in Masaka, Uganda – a rural town in Southwestern Uganda 120km from Kampala.  This is the site where AFRIpads has 120+ rural-based, majority female production workers and where AFRIpads is constructing a 1,700-square meter production facility to up-scale and streamline its operations.  

 

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Construction Management
  • Supervise the construction of the AFRIpads workshop in Masaka. Oversee that the local contractor adheres to the activity plan and that the building is being constructed as per standard acceptable engineering and architectural principles.  Liaise with and supervise the local architect.
  • Keep the project within overall timeline of 6-9 months from commencement.
  • Update CEO in Kampala on progress of the construction process, including regular (weekly) reports/update meetings.

 

  1. Operations Management (Production, Logistics & Supply Chain)
  • Overseeing the Production team in Masaka and the Logistics & Supply Chain department in Kampala: Developing, implementing, and documenting improvements across the overall production, logistics and operations activities and systems including but not limited to:
    • Sourcing and supply chain management including: all material inputs and equipment used in the production line, and all needs for administration, sales, marketing, stock management, and the shipping of products post-production.
    • Manufacturing process including: production line process; quality control systems and approvals; conversion analysis; packaging; strategic production planning; and product development, R&D
    • Logistics process including: upstream and downstream logistics processes, order process, packing, and shipping product (both local and export)
    • Inventory management including: raw materials, finished products, stock management, general office and sales and marketing and materials, and overarching controls
  • Maintain standards/manuals, product analyses, and quality marks as required by law
  • Manage all other project or issue on request

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in construction project management
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in operational management for a commercial manufacturing company
  • Advanced quantitative analysis skills and proficiency in excel
  • Ability to manage, train and empower a multi-cultural team of operational staff
  • Strong references from past managers
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills (English)
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and collaborative nature
