AFRIpads Season's Greetings

By Helen Walker Date Wednesday, December 23, 2015

We would like to thank our AFRIpads community for all the support we received over 2015. We already thought that 2014 was an amazing year, but 2015 just blew 2014 out of the water! Thanks to all of you, we have been able to improve the lives of almost 400,000 girls and women in Uganda and around the world over 2015. That is twice the amount of girls and women that we were able to support with our AFRIpads Menstrual Kits over 2014.

2015 was a year of highlights. We started the year off right by celebrating in March that we reached half a million girls and women with our AFRIpads Menstrual Kits since start of business in 2010. We organized a big party with our Ugandan partners, colleagues and friends to celebrate achieving this amazing milestone. In 2015 we also rebranded AFRIpads, resulting in a new logo, new packaging and a brand new website. We are also thrilled that this year, we were able to launch our retail brand So Sure, sold exclusively in Uganda to our local consumers.

Another positive development over 2015 was to see the increasing global attention for Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM). More and more people are realizing that this is a very serious issue, affecting so many girls and women in so many countries. AFRIpads has been committed to improving MHM for girls and women in East Africa and beyond from our start in 2010, and we are happy to find more and more like-minded people and organizations by our side. We are also very proud that our work has been recognized by various media outlets like NPR, The Guardian and Refinery29 over 2015.

With such an amazing year behind us, it is hard to imagine that 2016 can even top this. But as always, we have big plans for the next year. By mid-2016, we hope to have improved the lives of ONE MILLION girls and women with our AFRIpads Menstrual Kits. We are right on track to achieve this goal, so we hope to be able to celebrate this milestone by summer 2016. By the end of 2016, we hope to have finalized the construction of our own AFRIpads factory in Kitengesa, the village in South-Western Uganda where it all started. This will enable us to bring all of our employees who work in production together in one facility. Some of the extra features of the new factory will be a daycare for our employee's kids, a garden to grow vegetables and just overall a nice, fully-equipped working environment.

As you can see, we still have many dreams to achieve and we hope that with another year of your support, we will be able to realize all of them. On behalf of the AFRIpads team (150 people strong as we speak!) enormous thanks for your support over 2015 and we hope to keep on sharing and celebrating our updates, progress and achievements together with you in 2016.
