Rashida's story

By Helen Walker Date Tuesday, March 8, 2016

My name is Nabayemba Rashidah and I live in Kitengesa, Masaka District, in Uganda. I am 24 years old and since 3 years I have been a tailor at AFRIpads. I am married and I have 2 children.

International Women's Day is a day where women celebrate their freedom. I think freedom is very important, because to me empowerment is basically the freedom for women to make their own choices.

AFRIpads is empowering me because it is providing me with a job that pays me highly, so it allows me to take care of myself. Thanks to my salary, I am able to pay the school fees for my brothers and sisters, so I can send them to school. I can also keep some savings, so I can save for goals and plans I have for the future.

I'm happy with the girls and women that are supported with a product that I make every day. I hope this will give them the freedom that I think is so important. Happy International Women's Day!
