Christine's story

By Helen Walker Date Tuesday, March 8, 2016

My name is Nalinya Christine and I live in Kiteza. This is in Masaka district in Uganda. I am 40 years old and a widow with 5 children. I have been with AFRIpads for 3 years now as a tailor.

International Women's Day is a day when women were released to have all the freedom and rights that were denied to them before. That is empowering women, as empowerment is having the right to do what you want anytime and anywhere.

AFRIpads is empowering me in many ways. As my husband is no longer around, I have to take care of my 5 children. Through working for my children I am able to look after them. I can pay for their school fees and I can pay for their food, which is of course very important to me. In addition to that, I am able to build a house as well. This way I can give my children a good future. And I'm also helping other children, in this case only the girls, to have a better future as well.

I hope this will allow them to do whatever they want anytime and anywhere. Happy International Women's Day to all of you!
